Julie Harris, a Selby resident, has asked if the Selby community could collect can tabs for the Ronald McDonald House of Baltimore. The Ronald McDonald House provides parents of severely sick children a place to stay at little or no cost so that they can concentrate on getting their children better. Can tabs are a clean and convenient source of recyclable material that the charity turns in for money. For now, you may leave tabs in the Selby donation cooler on the side of the D'Angelo house (807 Selby). When the clubhouse is up and running we'll set up a special donation area. Along with can tabs, unused gift cards are accepted too! Many folks get gift cards during the holidays to places they either don't go or that isn't available in the area. Please put tabs and gift cards in plastic bags to protect them from damage.
Lea Nolan, a Selby resident, has published her first book, "Conjure", as featured in the Winter Edition of the Bay Winds. "Conjure" is the first book of the Hoodoo Apprentice Series for young adults. A link is provided on the right if you would like to purchase a copy. Paperback and Kindle editions are available.

Emma Guthrie expects this summer to be like any other in the South Carolina Lowcountry—hot and steamy with plenty of beach time alongside her best friend and secret crush, Cooper Beaumont, and Emma’s ever-present twin brother, Jack. But then a mysterious eighteenth-century message in a bottle surfaces, revealing a hidden pirate bounty. Lured by the adventure, the trio discovers the treasure and unwittingly unleashes an ancient Gullah curse that attacks Jack with the wicked flesh-eating Creep and promises to steal Cooper’s soul on his approaching sixteenth birthday.
But when a strange girl appears bent on revenge, demon dogs become a threat, and Jack turns into a walking skeleton, Emma has no choice but to learn hoodoo magic to undo the hex, all before summer—and her friends—are lost forever.
