Subdivided Selby on the Bay Beach Plat
Filed illegally by Otis Williams in 1937

Illegal Plat

This first plat is a poorly scanned photocopy of the plat filed in Anne Arundel County on May 12, 1937. The hand written "Book 10, Page 16" and Filing date were probably added to the blueprint at the filing date.  You will notice that it was surveyed and blueprinted by James C. Hobday/ Civil Engineer of Washington D.C. in October of 1932. Otis Williams filed this plat long after he had Mr. Hobday manufactured it. Mr. Hobday's name appears on many of the early plats that you will see in our library.

Below is a negative imagine of a true blueprint of the same plat. It shows a little more clarity and while it looks to be identical it does have some minor differences.

From all information obtained through various counsel for the SCA, this plat is deemed illegal in nature by Judge Clark in the Perpetual Injunction case. Judge Clark stated that the subdivision of the "Community Beach and Park" is not proper because it would show intention to disassemble the property as saleable lots.
The saleable lots happened to be the same owner-exclusive dedicated "Community Beach and Park" land that Selby on the Bay Properties Co. salesmen used to coax customers into purchasing property in the new Selby on the Bay development with starting in 1930.
