* County Council Meeting *
Monday, 5 December 2016
County Executive Steve Schuh introduced legislation last month that put the Mayo Peninsula and much of the Annapolis area in what is a called an area recommended for “enhanced development”. His legislation is called the Rural Conservation Bill. On Monday, 5 December the bill will be voted on by the county council. We are encouraging everyone who will be effected by this bill to come out and show a stand of solidarity against further development in our immediate area. If you would like to talk, then you may sign up for a 2 minute time slot. The county council meets at 7pm at 44 Calvert Street. Please see the Selby website (www.selbyonthebay.org) for map and further information.
* 1st Friday Happy Hour *
Friday, 2 December 2016
The Selby holiday get-together will be held on Friday, 2 December beginning at 6:00pm with a visit with Santa Claus. Santa will hang out for a half and hour for photos and wish lists. We will be having our Ugly Sweater Contest as well and pick the winning man, woman and child. The Ugly Sweater Voting will be from 7:00pm to 7:30pm with the winners being announced at 7:45pm. The back room will be open for kids to play board games and color with a neighborhood teen supervising. A holiday tip is not required, but appreciated. Feel free to sign the Sign-Up Genius to bring a snack and the holiday party is a BYOB event. Don’t forget drinks for the kids! Please, no food or drink in the back room.
* Firehouse Santa *
Sunday, 4 December 2016
The Woodland Beach Volunteer Fire Department will once again escort Santa around the Peninsula. They will be entering Selby at 7:00pm. We will open the clubhouse at 6:30pm for a hot chocolate bar, cookies and letter writing to Santa Claus. All letters will be donated to Macy’s and they will donate $1 a letter to the Make-a-Wish Foundation. The Firehouse Santa is a charity event and the firehouse is asking that folks donate a wrapped gift labelled for boy/girl and age/size. They will also accept gently used coats and winter gear (hats, scarves, mittens/gloves). The Woodland Beach Volunteer Fire Department is also sponsoring the Blue Ribbon Project’s Backpacks of Love. You may donate a full backpack or items to be used in the backpacks. See their website for details of backpack contents - www.blueribbonproject.org. You can also find a scavenger hunt page on the Selby website for kids to find backpack items in the store.
